Dr. Wilson graduated Magna cum laude from Cornell University and maintained a 4.0 GPA through her Master’s and Doctoral programs at Stanford University. She has developed skills and strategies which have proven successful in achieving academic excellence, even in the most challenging courses and programs. Through the SucSeed Training or an individual consultation, you will learn about skills and strategies to implement in your academic success journey.

Being able to clearly present your ideas to an audience and actively listen to others are critical components of effective communication. Dr. Wilson is an experienced dialogue facilitator and public speaker; she has participated in numerous panels, podcasts, and presented at international conferences. Through these sessions, you will learn and practice these components to build confidence in your communication skills.

Strategies used to study in college may not be as effective in graduate school as the structure and pace of coursework can be different. The study strategies Dr. Wilson has developed over time enabled her to earn an A in every course she’s taken since sophomore year of college. Through these sessions, you’ll learn these strategies and develop your own to determine what works best for your learning style.

Dr. Wilson prides herself on maintaining high academic standards while prioritizing her health and wellbeing. The Research Process

Dr. Wilson is an award-winning, published researcher with over a decade of experience in the STEM field, specifically Environmental Science. She has a deep understanding of the research process, experience presenting research at international conferences, published manuscripts, and writing a thesis and dissertation. These sessions are designed for new and experienced researchers to gain insights and learn skills needed to succeed as a researcher.

The research process can be long and complicated especially for beginners. It includes idea development, literature reviews, data collection and analysis, writing, and more. These sessions are for anyone needing a better understanding of the research process or assistance with specific phases.

A thesis or dissertation is the culmination of a scholar’s work and required to complete Master’s and Doctoral programs. Dr. Wilson completed a senior honors thesis as an undergraduate student and a dissertation as a PhD student. Through these sessions, you will gain a better understanding of the components of a thesis/dissertation and assistance creating a writing schedule.

Researchers should be prepared to present their research to multiple audiences such as the scientific community, peers/colleagues, and the general public. Dr. Wilson has many years of experience with oral and poster research talks, winning several awards for her presentations. Through these sessions, you can receive assistance developing oral and poster presentations, feedback on materials, and practice presenting before going before an audience.

Developing Strong Applications

Dr. Wilson has been accepted into numerous summer research programs at elite universities, awarded research grants and scholarships, and membership into selective academic organizations. Through these sessions, scholars can receive application assistance for non-admissions related programs and academic opportunities. This includes guidance on what types of opportunities would be valuable to pursue, essay and resume review, and interview preparation.

Interviews are a very important part of the application process. Through this service, we will prep and practice interview questions and responses to build your confidence before the interview.

Community Engagement

Dr. Wilson developed a novel framework called CIRCLE, along with eight practical strategies, in order to conduct ethical and effective community engaged participatory research. She has also won several awards for her community engagement work. This framework can be applied to all forms of community engagement, not just research, such as building community programs and collaborations. In group trainings and private research consultations, you will learn the components of the CIRCLE framework, eight strategies for implementation, examples of successful community engaged projects, and discuss how to best apply this knowledge to your community engagement work.

Equity & Belonging in Academia

Dr. Wilson has advocated for equity, belonging, and representation in academia, especially STEM, throughout her entire career. She has won several awards for her work in promoting equity and belonging. She has also been a guest speaker in several capacities advocating for change.

Dr. Wilson has provided informal and formal mentorship for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students throughout her career. She is particularly passionate about supporting underrepresented students through their academic journey.

Dr. Wilson is an advocate for increasing diversity and representation in Academia. She worked to recruit underrepresented students to graduate school and welcomed several students to Stanford University through her efforts. She also aims to meet this goal through SucSeed trainings and consultations which support students through the difficult graduate admissions process.

Dr. Wilson has faced and overcome many challenges as a Black woman in STEM including Imposter Syndrome, microaggressions, and feelings of not belonging. In her field of Environmental Science, she has often been the only Black woman in the field, in a course, or lab group. She can speak to this experience and how to excel despite adversity.
