SucSeed Trainings are unique because they are designed to assist students with two phases: (1) gaining admission into academic programs and (2) succeeding beyond admission. Led by Dr. Wilson, these trainings provide participants with proven knowledge, strategies, and skills used to succeed in both phases across four distinct sessions. Participants may enroll in the session most aligned with their immediate goals or complete the full series for a comprehensive, end-to-end roadmap from application to academic excellence. All trainings are conducted virtually.

Participation in academic programs are critical to developing a competitive application for graduate programs. These could include research experiences for undergraduates (REU), academic honor programs such as the McNair Scholars Program, leadership roles in student organizations, internships, and more. The graduate admissions process has similar components to the college admissions process but differs in many ways, which can be daunting. Graduate admissions can be very competitive as there are often small cohorts of students accepted each year. This training provides the insider clarity institutions rarely make explicit and tips for helping your application stand out.

Ace Your Courses: Learn Essential Skills and Strategies for Academic Success

Coursework is critical for developing the subject matter expertise and skillsets necessary for research idea development and execution. This training provides an overview of ways to succeed in academic courses, and is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students.

Mastering the Research Process: Design, Implementation, and Communication

Research, like any other skill, requires knowledge, experience, and practice to master. This training provides an overview of the research process and describes some of the core components along with strategies for succeeding in those areas.

  • Communication (oral and written)

  • Project management

  • Publishing manuscripts

Ethical and Effective Community Engagement Training

Dr. Wilson developed a novel framework called CIRCLE, along with eight practical strategies, in order to conduct ethical and effective community engaged participatory research. This framework can be applied to all forms of community engagement such as building community programs and collaborations. In group trainings, participants will learn the components of the CIRCLE framework, eight strategies for implementation, examples of successful community engaged projects, and discuss how to best apply this knowledge to their community engagement work.
